Artist Statement
To me, the role of an artist is to uplift people-to go beyond what most people can see and imagine. My work is my words. To try and put words to what I do is always after the fact, never what I think about when I am painting.
My paintings are all about energy, expression, and movement. I start out with an idea, but it almost always changes. I enjoy taking abstracted natural forms and shapes, then organizing them in a very specific way that stresses balance, movement and flow.
The intuitive power of creativity is the glue that holds a painting together. Unity and variety allow the eye to move around the painting. Abstract art conveys deep emotional undercurrents, moods, things oftentimes not easily named. I strive for art that is imaginative, emotionally resonant and assertively colorful.
